Since the Tibetan Dog is considered to be an exceptional dog and one that requires special care, breeders need to be especially careful when selecting which applicants to approve for breeding.

In addition, breeders should only accept applicants that come from families that show no signs of health problems or behavioral disorders. An ethical kennel will also ask a potential owner to supply them with a veterinary bill, since the bill can help to determine the value of a TM.

Follow Ethical Standards

An ethical breeder should also only breed Tibetan Mastiffs with parents who have passed the breed standard. While it is possible to buy TMs from breeders in, for example, Thailand, it is also possible to buy them from reputable breeding homes that follow recognized standards.

They will usually be able to provide you with certificates and references for your own research. If you cannot find any information about the parents of the dogs, the best choice would be to purchase a purebred TM puppy.

Why Choose A Purebred TM Dog

Purebred TM dogs are generally much more likely to have been tested for temperament and genetic disorders, and will therefore be more likely to conform to breed standards.

Price

The final consideration when purchasing a Tibetan Mastiff is how much you can afford to pay. A good breeder will let you know upfront what you can expect to pay and will not try to undercut you in order to make a sale. It's important to remember that these dogs are likely to cost you quite a bit of money up front, so getting a reasonable price on the puppy is very important.
